Intel Xeon Workstations

Intel’s Xeon processor line is built for long-term reliability. They offer features like high core counts, AVX-512, ECC memory, and lots of PCI-Express lanes.

Intel’s Xeon product family includes a wide range of different platforms with varying roles and capabilities, but there are some similarities which are broadly shared across these models. All Xeons support error checking and correcting (ECC) memory, for example, and are generally aimed at long-term reliability for servers, workstations, and embedded computing applications. Because of that focus they don’t have the highest clock speeds, but often feature high core counts and advanced processing features like AVX-512 and lots of PCI-Express lanes. We also offer Xeon-based rackmount servers and workstations.

Select a Model to Configure

We offer computers with Intel Xeon processors in two sizes: both mid- and full-tower workstations. Larger systems can house a wider range of hardware, including additional video cards, storage drives, various expansion cards, and more.

Intel Xeon W-2400 and W-3400 Specifications

The current line of Xeon W processors we carry includes two families:

Xeon W-3400 is a replacement for the previous W-3300 line, but with substantially higher core counts and improved performance. They feature eight-channel memory controllers, as previous generations had, with up to 56 cores (112 threads with Hyperthreading).

Xeon W-2400 represents Intel’s re-introduction of a high-end desktop (HEDT) processor, which has been absent since their Core X line faded from the spotlight a few years ago. These are more affordable than the W-3400s but are equipped with quad-channel memory controllers and only go up to 24 cores / 48 threads.

Dr. Glaser works as a researcher in the Molecular Biophotonics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He and his team design, fabricate and deploy optical instruments for clinical applications. Specifically, his research over the last 5 years has focused on developing cutting edge light-sheet microscopes for high-throughput 3D imaging.

“Our light-sheet microscopes use state-of-the-art scientific CMOS cameras which generate ~1GB of imaging data every second. As a result, there are important considerations for every stage of a datasets’ life cycle, including acquisition, transfer, processing, visualization, analysis, and ultimately storage.”

“The customization and high-performance options from Puget Systems were ideal for our needs.”
